A Trip Down Memory Lane: Why Bungalows are Still Awesome

At some point in our childhoods, we for whatever reason be it for school purposes or to satisfy our own boredom have tried to draw a picture of a house. I for one remember that as a child whenever I would be asked to make one of these crude illustrations, I would often draw a square with a triangular roof, windows on the left and right side, and a single door in the middle. I also vaguely remember having at least one of these drawings hung upon the refrigerator door with a magnet by my parents.

Anyway, the reason why I took a trip down memory lane was to bring attention to the bungalow house design - the quintessential design everyone and their mother first thinks of when describing a house in the Philippines. And honestly I wouldn’t blame you since this style of house has a long history dating back to the late 17th century in the South Asian region of Bengal.

However, in this age where people seek to build bigger and bigger homes, the bungalow tends to be often overlooked and underrated. But there are still many reasons for you to want to choose a bungalow:

Great Privacy

One of the hallmark features of a bungalow house is its low profile, therefore all it takes is some well-placed plants and shrubs and exterior decoration to give yourself protection from your gossipy neighbors (just remember to keep your volume low when you have a conversation)

Great for Senior Citizens and Young Kids Alike

A single story bungalow is a great option for the elderly as well as families with young kids due to the fact that all of the main living spaces are all on the same floor. For one thing, it makes moving around a lot easier if you have a lot of aches and pains, and the absence of a second floor means there’s less of a chance for young children with near-endless energy to take any major fall damage

What Is Bungalow Architecture?

Easy Maintenance

Unlike larger home designs, single story bungalows are extremely easy to keep clean and maintain due to a cozy interior, so it’s a great choice for people who have a busy lifestyle or for whatever reason don’t have much time to spare

Open- Plan Design

As they say: “Never judge a book by its cover” and it cannot be more true with bungalows, though they may look small and quaint on the outside, they often times can have deceptively spacious interiors

Great Resale Value

A bungalow house will always be in demand especially nowadays when good housing is getting more difficult to find. A bungalow is a great choice for first-time home owners, or older adults looking to downsize

In conclusion: if you’re looking for your first home, or you’re an old timer with a bad back, I hope I have convinced you that a bungalow house design is a viable choice even in modern times in the Philippines.
